Staircase and safety balustrade for Lincoln Castle medieval wall walk
Part of the regeneration of Lincoln Castle.
Darke’s metalwork package was approx. £1.2 million and included stainless web net balustrade around the whole perimeter of the castle walls and the DDA access lift shaft and spiral staircase in weathering steel.

200 tonne crane.
A 200 tonne crane was required to lift the spiral staircase over the castle wall. The access to this area of Lincoln is very narrow and road closure and parking suspension notice were required to get the spiral stair and the crane with its ballast lorry into position.
In place and on time.
Despite the gradually strengthening wind Darke’s project manager Jonny Kane managed the spiral staircase and the link bridge all in place set up and bolted up safely by 2pm.
